The Advocator Group, LLC Partners with Boston Children’s Hospital to Donate Baseball Gear to Child Life Services
Wakefield, MA (PRWEB) October 24, 2016 -- The Advocator Group, LLC is delighted to donate over 75 pieces of baseball gear, including caps, gloves, and baseballs to Boston Children’s Hospital. Child Life Services will give the baseball gear to children of various ages as gifts on their birthdays, or during particularly difficult times during their treatment.
The Social Security Disability and Medicare Advocacy firm purchased the gear after an annual company event that took place in September. The donation was inspired by the event’s theme of “sowing seeds” and the keynote speaker, Dick Hoyt.
Hoyt shared the powerful story of how he and his family sowed seeds in their own lives by helping Dick’s son, Rick—a spastic quadriplegic—pursue his passion for sports. For nearly 40 years Dick has pushed, pulled, and carried Rick through marathons, triathlons, and various other sporting events, all to show his son that his disability doesn’t have to hinder him. Their efforts inspired many athletes and friends in Boston to form “Team Hoyt” to show support to and run alongside the father and son, and Team Hoyt now has chapters all over the world.
Hearing the Hoyts’ incredible story firsthand was powerful for The Advocator Group teammates who walk alongside individuals seeking financial security in the midst of battling disabling illnesses or injuries each day, and they were deeply compelled by his message about seeking joy in the midst of difficult times and working hard to pursue ambitious goals.
This led to the donation to Child Life Services at Boston Children’s Hospital, so that children battling illnesses, fear, anxiety, and pain can enjoy play, creative arts, and family activities to normalize the hospital experience. Child Life Services seeks to reduce the stress that children and their families are experiencing during their time at the hospital, as some families spend several months at Boston Children’s, and small moments providing joy and learning can truly uplift an entire family’s spirits.
Child Life Specialists facilitate a wide range of special events and gifts for children—ranging from visits by professional athletes to simpler things like music or art sessions. Each Child Life Specialist holds a bachelor's or master's degree in the areas of child life, child development, special education, or recreational therapy, allowing them to offer the most engaging and personalized experiences to each child as possible.
“Donating these hats, gloves, and baseballs to Boston Children’s Hospital was a natural extension of our September event,” states CEO of The Advocator Group Julie Turpin. “Many of our teammates have children of their own, and we were all so inspired by Dick Hoyt’s message about working hard and the power of sowing seeds in the life of a child who is struggling, that we felt compelled to do something to bring them joy on their birthdays or during a difficult time in their recovery. Each day we provide assistance to individuals nationwide who are often overwhelmed by their circumstances, and we are thrilled to be able to help the Child Life Services team comfort children and their families through fun and games—and baseball!”
