Torsten Volk Joins EMA as Managing Research Director for Hybrid Cloud, the Software-Defined Data Center and Machine Learning
Boulder, Colo. (PRWEB) October 25, 2016 -- Enterprise Management Associates (EMA), a leading IT and data management research and consulting firm, today announced that Torsten Volk has joined the firm as managing research director in the software-defined infrastructure practice area. Volk will specialize in topics that lead the way from the software-defined data center (SDDC) toward a business-defined concept of enterprise IT. He will spearhead research projects on machine learning combined with an application- and service-centric approach to hybrid cloud orchestration, hyperconverged infrastructure, intelligent workload placement, public cloud, open source frameworks, containers and hyperscale computing.
“Now that practitioners have understood and accepted the concept of dynamically adjusting server, network, storage and security parameters to rapidly changing software and service requirements, we need to focus on the next step,” says Volk, “which means aligning what is going on in the data center with each organization’s prioritized list of business goals. In the end, even the lowest level data center or public cloud components – disks, network interface cards, hypervisors, etc. – must be selected and configured to optimally support the customer’s specific revenue and cost objectives.”
Volk covered the software-defined data center and hybrid cloud management at EMA from October 2011 to May 2014. He then served as vice president of product management and marketing for cloud and end user computing at ASG Technologies. While in this role, Volk refocused ASG's cloud strategy toward delivering individualized end user experiences specific to job role and industry, disrupting the traditional device-centric management concept.
Volk’s additional experience includes serving as principal and director of professional services of two major consulting firms, where he assisted a long list of national and international organizations like The World Bank, International Monetary Fund, International Ocean Discovery Program and Prometric, leverage leading edge virtualization, cloud and machine learning technologies to realize cost savings and dramatically increased staff productivity.
