AWARE for All: CISCRP’s Clinical Research Education Event Held to Engage Retirement Community in Laguna Woods
Boston, MA (PRWEB) October 25, 2016 -- The Center for Information and Study on Clinical Research Participation (CISCRP) is pleased to announce an upcoming AWARE for All event on Tuesday, November 1 at the Laguna Woods Village retirement community in Southern California. This free program will aim to educate and empower members of the retirement community in making informed decisions about clinical research and various healthcare options.
Laguna Woods Village residents, their guests, and research professionals will come together to learn about clinical research, receive health screenings, and hear from local physician and patient speakers. This program will feature informational exhibits, lunch, giveaways, discussions from patients, medical professionals and researchers about health conditions such as Alzheimer’s, Diabetes, Cancer, and Lupus. Funding for this event is provided by EMD Serono and the Lupus Research Alliance.
The event will be held from 10 am-1 pm and is open to all Laguna Woods Village residents and their guests.
Dr. Joshua D. Grill, Co-Director, UCI Mind and Associate Professor, Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior remarked “We are thrilled to partner with CISCRP on bringing this important clinical research education program to the Laguna Woods Village residents and their families. Those who attend will find great value in the free health screenings, shared patient stories, and interactions with local physicians and researchers. It’s a wonderful opportunity for residents to learn more about the various opportunities that are available in this community.”
Ken Getz, Founder of CISCRP added, “We are very pleased to bring this educational program to an active and engaged retirement community. AWARE is designed to inform and engage the public as active partners in the clinical research process. And at this time, there is a disproportionately high level of clinical research activity that may be of interest to this community and its health care options.”
CISCRP holds AWARE for All clinical research education events in various cities all over the world, but this is the first time the program will be brought to a concentrated community of nearly 18,000 residents. The hope is that this very important segment of the population, those aged 55+, will benefit from having relevant health screenings, educational presentations, and interactions with research professionals brought directly to their own community.
Residents and guests of Laguna Woods Village can register for this event through http://www.awareforall.org or by calling 1-877-MED-HERO (1-877-633-4376).
