A new segment of the popular series will continue to spotlight changes in online security...

Viewers knows James Earl Jones from his multiple award-winning performances and his role as the voice of Darth Vader in the Star Wars movies. He has recently turned his attention towards highlighting important issues in society today as the host of various "Front Page" segments. One of the most recent segments targeted the importance of online security.

Most people have experience with the inconvenience of attracting a computer virus. This can slow down a computer, result in lost data, or even crash a hard drive completely. While this is frustrating and critically detrimental, online security continues to evolve as threats continue to grow. Some viruses give hackers access to important personal data. People can have their identities stolen and lose sensitive financial data to criminals. More recently, the idea of ransomware has hit the mainstream media. These are viruses that can infect a computer and completely lock up an entire network, making it unusable. The idea is that the perpetrators will only release the network after a ransom has been paid. Some organizations, such as hospitals, can't afford to lose access to technology.

These are just a few of the issues profiled in Front Page's online security segment. People should take every step necessary to make sure their network and computer security systems are up to date, and this informational segment seeks to continue to educate consumers on how.

"Front Page" with James Earl Jones is produced exclusively for public television broadcast and is delivered to PBS Member Stations and others. Every episode is vetted for quality assurance prior to release.
