Dr. Bruce Wexler, Senior Research Scientist at Yale School of Medicine to Speak at Symposium on Cognitive Research & Disabilities
Jacksonville, Fla. (PRWEB) October 25, 2016 -- The International Board of Credentialing & Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES) is excited to announce that Dr. Bruce E. Wexler, Senior Research Scientist, Yale School of Medicine and Director of Neurocognitive Research Laboratory at Connecticut Mental Health Center, will be presenting at the International Symposium on Cognitive Research & Disabilities taking place on Feb. 13-14, 2017 in St. Augustine, Fla.
Author of over 125 scientific articles, Professor Wexler is a world leader in harnessing neuroplasticity to improve cognition through brain exercises. He and colleagues developed the first program that integrates computerized brain exercises and physical exercises to improve executive function in young children, a program in use by thousands of children in schools across the U.S. Dr. Wexler and colleagues have also developed programs that are effective treatments for ADHD and geriatric depression.
“Research has over-and-over demonstrated the importance of cognitive problems in limiting success in school and life,” said Wexler. “Now new research is establishing increasingly effective methods to help children and adults with cognitive deficits succeed despite the deficits, or even reduce the deficits themselves. This conference brings together many people who are in the forefront of these important efforts.”
Healthcare and education professionals are invited to participate in the 1.5 day symposium, which is set to take place at the World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Florida. The event is designed to equip professionals with the tools they need to increase the quality of care and improve outcomes for both students and patients with cognitive and developmental disabilities. Top cognitive research experts and educational leaders will conduct TED Talk formatted panel discussions on topics relating to healthcare and education.
Over 25 leading healthcare researchers, professors and masters of education will be speaking in interactive sessions, which will be simultaneously broadcast throughout the world. Attendees may choose a healthcare or education track, enjoy an Innovator’s Hall of vendors with the latest top resources and attend Master's and Doctorate level poster sessions, which will be held for students that would like to showcase Research & Solutions presentations that focus on innovative therapies, education strategies and tools that result in increase of quality of care, access to care, improved student outcomes and improved patient/student communication.
“It is imperative that we achieve a far greater understanding of people with cognitive disabilities: how we diagnose them, how we treat them, how we teach them," said Rick Fort, psychologist and former president and Chief Science Officer of CereScan Corp., a brain imaging company that specializes in advanced technologies for diagnosing a wide variety of brain dysfunctions. "This will be an important conference for advancing that cause.”
The luncheon portion of the event will include a special performance by Luci Butler, a music therapist that has toured with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Moby and has worked with the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function. This will be sponsored by Bayes Achievement Center, a Certified Autism Center that serves exceptional students in Texas by staying up-to-date in cognitive research, training and certification.
“Bayes Achievement Center is thrilled to sponsor and participate in the upcoming International Symposium on Cognitive Research and Disabilities,” said Daniel Bayes, Executive Director of Bayes Achievement Center. “As a therapeutic residential program serving students with a broad range of exceptionalities, we endeavor to stay abreast of the latest research and advances in our field to better serve our students.”
