Onondaga Community College Partners with The Affordable College Public Benefit Corporation
Syracuse, NY and Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) October 27, 2016 -- Onondaga Community College (OCC) has formed a strategic collaboration with The Affordable College Public Benefit Corporation to help more students afford and attain a high-quality degree, certificate, or credential. The collaboration brings the leadership team from OCC and the entrepreneurial talent from Affordable College together into a network of leaders from other institutions to collaborate on the new national community college platform. At launch, the collaboration will emphasize helping more students transfer with more credits, earning a degree in less time for less money. The network will also focus on increasing readiness, enrollment, and retention at community colleges.
Universities from both the local Syracuse area and around the country have also been invited to join the network and collaborate on the new platform in an effort to address the challenges with student transfer and mobility well-documented in the in the National Student Clearinghouse Signature Reports. The partners will launch the first feature of the platform, a Transfer Student Marketplace, in early 2017 to help OCC and other students find the school with the right degree program that will award them the most transfer credit. The Transfer Student Marketplace will incorporate many of the recommendations of the Transfer Playbook published in May by The Aspen Institute and The Community College Research Center namely: prioritizing transfer, creating clear programmatic pathways with aligned high-quality instruction, and providing tailored transfer advising.
Under the vision and leadership of Dr. Casey Crabill, OCC is responding to the accelerated pace of change in their community by providing new resources through the collaboration. “Collaborating with Affordable College adds entrepreneurial energy at Onondaga Community College expanding our ability to help students succeed,” says Dr. Crabill, President of OCC. “Together, we’re dedicated to helping more of our students transfer with all of their hard earned credits, saving them valuable time and money.”
Affordable College Founder, Sean O’Brien, said, “Students should expect outsized returns from their investment in higher education, the kind of returns Onondaga Community College provides because of its quality and affordability. We’re investing in this network because the 10.5M community college students at Onondaga Community College and around the country represent enormous human potential as individuals. We believe they can collectively lift us to the college completion and economic levels our country needs to reach in the next decade.”
