Rising Tide Capital Honors Inventor and Entrepreneur Joy Mangano Whose Story Inspired the Oscar-Nominated Film “Joy”
NEW YORK (PRWEB) October 27, 2016 -- On November 1, 2016, at the Liberty House Restaurant in Jersey City, NJ, Rising Tide Capital will honor Joy Mangano, whose story inspired the Oscar-nominated movie “Joy,” at the 2016 Start Something Champions Gala. Joy, who began her career as an inventor and entrepreneur 25 years ago with her award-winning Miracle Mop, will be honored as the 2016 Entrepreneur of the Year alongside JPMorgan Chase and the Blackstone Charitable Foundation.
“Joy’s story as a single working mother who turned her ideas and dreams into a thriving business could be the story of one of our Rising Tide Entrepreneurs,’’ Rising Tide Capital CEO and co-founder Alfa Demmellash said. “The onscreen portrayal of her inspiring story of changing the trajectory of her life through entrepreneurship, brings our mission into popular culture and we are so grateful for that. Entrepreneurs can be women. They can work hard, grow their businesses, and create jobs in our local economies. I am proud to partner with Joy in empowering entrepreneurs to grow their own ventures through the programs we offer at Rising Tide Capital.”
In 2015, Rising Tide Capital joined with The Joy Mangano Foundation to raise awareness and empower entrepreneurs working to start and grow successful businesses. The partnership builds on Rising Tide Capital’s decade of work to train and support entrepreneurs in launching and growing their businesses through its nationally-recognized program, The Community Business Academy (CBA). Proceeds from the gala will fund scholarships for entrepreneurs from marginalized communities to participate in the CBA in 2017.
“I’ve worked with Rising Tide Capital to help many first-time entrepreneurs and single mothers use their creativity and talents to build businesses that transform their lives and the lives of those around them,” said Mangano. “I’m thrilled to attend the Start Something Champions Gala to celebrate all of these amazing entrepreneurs, and I’m so honored to receive this award.”
Limited tickets are available for the 5th Annual Start Something Champions Gala, which takes place from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Liberty House Restaurant in Jersey City.
