Industry Leading Surgeon Dr. Mark McFarland Completes 100th Less Exposure Surgery Procedures Using SpineFrontier’s LES® Techniques and LES-PLIFT Implant, Oct 27th, 2016
Newport News, VA (PRWEB) November 01, 2016 -- Industry Leading Surgeon Dr. Mark McFarland Completes 100th Less Exposure Surgery Procedures Using SpineFrontier’s LES® Techniques and LES-PLIFT Implant on October 27th, 2016
Dr. Mark McFarland completed his 100th PLIFT less exposure surgery (LES®) procedure at Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News, Virginia, fusing the L5-S1 level of a male patient’s spine with a fusion device that restores spinal disc height and corrects deformities with a safer surgical procedure.
On October 27th, 2016, Industry-leading surgeon Dr. Mark McFarland completed his 100th LES-PLIFT less exposure surgery (LES®) procedure on a 47-year-old male patient. The patient was diagnosed with lumbar spondylosis and spondylolisthesis. The procedure was carried out at Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News, Virginia.
The patient’s spondylolisthesis manifested itself in the form of bilateral lower extremity pain with numbness in the right foot. Dr. McFarland concluded the most efficient way to return his patient to an active, pain free life-style was to provide anterior column support using the LES-PLIFT interbody cage alongside less exposure surgical techniques to fuse the L5-S1 vertebrae.
Dr. McFarland commented on the case, "Optimal surgical performance, with minimal soft tissue dissection, is the emphasis in "Less Exposure Surgical" techniques. This new fusion device allows me to restore spinal disc height and correct anatomical deformity with a very minimal, safe surgical approach. This less exposure technique allows for a faster surgical recovery and increased patient satisfaction. We have now performed one hundred such cases with no complications or revisions. We are excited to be on the forefront of these LES procedures and novel innovations that are improving our patients lives."
The LES-PLIFT implant, designed and manufactured by SpineFrontier, is a revolutionary posterior lumbar interbody. It features a sleek, low-profile design, which aids in sparing patient anatomy during surgery. Its large graft window, inserter platform and cannulated design offer surgeons and patients security and confidence that post-operative recovery will be faster and less painful when compared with classic surgical procedures. Designed and engineered by SpineFrontier for use with LES techniques, LES-PLIFT is becoming an industry standard for these types of fusion procedures.
