“Russia Rising” is the story of David Ivanovich Markoff. He is a CIA operative and analyst, who arrives in Helsinki, Finland after falling out of favor at CIA Headquarters under suspicion aroused by his Russian heritage.
In Finland, Markoff survives an assassination attempt, becomes entangled in a moral and career crisis when he attempts to assist a Belarus KGB-imprisoned Estonian-American human rights activist, and encounters Finnish SUPO, Belarus KGB, Estonian KaPo, the Israeli Mossad, Russian SVR/FSB, and Helsinki-based American motorcycle gangs.
With twists involving a United States Ambassador to Finland, the precarious, paranoid world of CIA reality, the authoritarian police state of Belarus, and an impending confrontation between Russia and Finland, Russia Rising provides a thrilling journey as David tries to survive the power politics and corruption of the United States diplomatic and intelligence world.
This timely novel dramatizes the tensions between Russia and Finland and the spy wars that are taking place within the region. The author, Seth Chanowitz, stated, "Real events in Russia have made this fictional novel very timely. Russian-US relations are at a low point and military action could be triggered by a small event portrayed in the novel."
Mr Chanowitz is available for interview and will be giving a discussion at the World Politics Institute in Washington DC entitled, "Russia, Finland and the New Cold War: Geopolitics as Fiction.
