Palisade Bluegrass & Roots Festival Selects Local Artwork for the 2017 Festival Promotions
Palisade, CO (PRWEB) November 02, 2016 -- Six local artists competed in this year’s poster design contest for the 2017 Palisade Bluegrass & Roots Festival. Artists presented concepts depicting the beautiful scenery of Palisade, CO combined with other traditional bluegrass imagery and colorful festival paintings. The winning piece is titled: "Love and Hippiness: Ode to a Blacklight Poster,“ by Gayle Madden. This graphic design piece was selected last week at the Blue Pig Art Gallery where 87 people cast their votes for this year’s competition.
Gayle has been a local resident of Palisade for nine years and considers herself a child of the 60’s. “My youth exposed me to black light posters and the wavy psychedelic type. I wanted to combine my roots and celebrate women in music,” said Gale. “I set out to create a piece I would like to see, and if it wasn’t to win, I would still have won in my own heart by creating it.”
The colorful poster depicts a free spirited musician, smiling as she plays her fiddle with Mt. Garfield peeking through the background. This image is a true representation of the festival, its spirit and the beauty that surrounds the Bluegrass & Roots Festival throughout the Palisade Park.
Palisade is celebrating the 9th year of the festival and has opened the poster design to public artist competition for the last two years. “We feel it’s a great way for the community to gather together behind our artists and recognize the talent we have in the local area,” said Lindsey Hill, Event Coordinator for the Palisade Bluegrass & Roots Festival. “It has been a great competition because no one understands the community, the beauty of Palisade and the uniqueness of this festival quite like the locals.”
