As Carmel by the Sea celebrates its historic 100th birthday in 2016, one of the gems in its crown, Bittner, The Pleasure of Writing will mark 25 years in business with a high-performance updated website, an extended selection of fine writing pens, an international collection of hand-engraved boxed notecards and stationery – and a 25th Anniversary Celebration on November 18th, 2016 at its flagship store on Ocean Avenue in the heart of Carmel by the Sea, voted third most romantic city after Paris and Venice by Conde Nast Traveler.

In the twenty-five years that owner Detlef Bittner has been welcoming Carmel visitors to his beautiful store, he has seen a revival in interest around the art of handwriting that has grown tangentially with the surge in technology and devices.

“Penmanship and the pleasure of writing have become a universal pursuit, sought with passion by our customers of all ages all over the world,” says Bittner. “For visitors to Carmel our store has become a destination because of the experience they have here, the imagination and connection that is sparked when writing by hand and, most of all, the increasing importance of taking a thoughtful moment to truly connect in this increasingly virtual world.”

Bittner also remains in close contact with his thriving community of writing enthusiasts via his newly streamlined website which offers easy search and in-depth information about product features and includes direct access to an international selection of cotton papers, journals, calligraphy supplies and accessories plus a collector’s club for writing instruments and an extensive video collection that brings the pleasure of writing to life.
