Society of Decorative Painters Celebrates Decorative Painting Month, Reopens International Museum of Society of Decorative Painters
Wichita, Kansas (PRWEB) November 02, 2016 -- The Society of Decorative Painters (SDP) observed Decorative Painting Month last month by holding a reception to celebrate the reopening of the International Museum of the Society of Decorative Painters. Members of the Society of Decorative Painters attended the reception on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 from 4:00pm-6:30pm at its new headquarters location at 1220 East First Street, Wichita, KS 67213.
“Decorative Painting Month is the time of year our members and chapters share our rich heritage and passion for painting at local art exhibits, libraries and craft shows,” says Kathy Swigon CDA, President of SDP. “With our headquarters’ recent move to downtown Wichita, we thought October was the perfect month to reopen the Museum and invite our members to visit our new home.”
With more than 175 works, the Museum exhibits and preserves pieces created by members of the Society and that are of historical significance to the international painting community.
In 2007, the Society launched an active campaign to build its own permanent collection of art that represents the beauty and diversity of decorative painting. Today, the Museum includes art spanning the organization’s 44 year history. Items in the Museum are original works of art created by some of decorative painting's most beloved and celebrated artists.
The Museum will open to the public later this year. For information about group visits, please contact Miho Halsey, Certification and Conference Manager, at miho(at)decorativepainters(dot)org.
SDP previously owned and operated at 393 North McLean Boulevard, Wichita, Kansas 67203 for 20 years.
