The awards were launched to recognize innovative women dedicated to creating a more secure world by guiding the crucial biometric technology market. This year's awardees include leaders in public and private sector organizations setting high standards for their capable use of biometrics:

  • JoAnn Buscaglia, Research Chemist, Counterterrorism and Forensic Science Research Unit, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
  • Tovah LaDier, Managing Director, International Biometrics and Identity Association (IBIA)
  • Elham Tabassi, Electronics Engineer, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
  • Teresa Wu, Director of Strategic Marketing and Government Relations, MorphoTrak

Chris Corum, publisher of SecureIDNews, said, "There are no four women, or men for that matter, who have exemplified leadership in this field more than FBI's JoAnn Buscaglia, IBIA's Tovah LaDier, NIST's Elham Tabassi and MorphoTrak's Teresa Wu. I congratulate them on their achievements in helping to make the world a more secure place, and I thank our judges for their efforts reviewing a field of highly qualified nominees."

SIA CEO Don Erickson added, "It is an honor for SIA to host and co-present the 2016 Women in Biometrics Awards and to recognize these outstanding leaders in their field. Biometric solutions have continued to shape the world of security and identity, and these recipients are all centrally responsible for the direction this technology has taken. SIA is particularly proud of the accomplishments of our member organizations—as both recipients and judges—and we thank them for their industry-leading efforts."

These leading women in biometrics will receive recognition as part of the SIA Honors Night event at the Current at Chelsea Piers in New York, N.Y., on Wednesday, Nov. 16. Register for SIA Honors Night at http://www.securityindustry.org/honors.
