FEI Behavioral Health, a social enterprise with a 35-year history and a leader in workforce resilience from workplace violence prevention and crisis management to EAP and organizational development, will present at the upcoming 2016 Nonpublic Conference: Where Compliance Meets Best Practice, hosted by Proficio Consulting Group.
The 2016 Nonpublic Conference runs November 9-10, 2016, in Oak Lawn, Illinois. FEI’s Senior Director Terri Howard will be part of a panel discussion talking about “Crisis De-Escalation and Physical Management,” on Nov. 10, 2016, at 8:30 a.m. CST. Howard will be joined by Simon Kemp, CEO of The Mandt System®, FEI’s workplace violence prevention partner.
At the panel presentation, representatives of several companies with models for crisis de-escalation and intervention will join in discussion regarding best practices in crisis de-escalation and physical management techniques. Panelists will provide an overview of student crisis de-escalation, restraint techniques, and evidence-based methods and ideologies. The session will also discuss common issues and pitfalls in restraint use that cut across all systems and settings.
Howard is responsible for working with FEI corporate clients to ensure they are prepared for, can respond to and recover from a crisis incident. She also coordinates the people support and psychological first aid services for those impacted by crises, and she is responsible for developing drills and exercises aimed at testing current plans and procedures. Over the years, Howard has contributed to several international standards and guidelines on crisis management and workplace violence prevention, including ASIS, a global community of more than 38,000 security practitioners, and the FBI.
Kemp has been with The Mandt System for more than five years and has spent 15 plus years in the field of reducing workplace violence. He has a professional background in applied psychology and applied behavior analysis and has worked as a consultant psychologist for The National Autistic Society and The National Deafblind and Rubella Association in the UK for approximately 10 years. Kemp continues to undertake consulting work for BILD (The British Institute of Learning Disability) and is a Senior Assessor on their Accreditation Scheme.
