American Kidney Fund Receives 15th Consecutive Top Rating from Nation’s Leading Charity Evaluator
Rockville, Maryland (PRWEB) November 07, 2016 -- The American Kidney Fund (AKF) today announced it has received the highest, 4-star rating for the 15th consecutive time from Charity Navigator, the nation’s premier charity evaluator. AKF is the only health nonprofit included in Charity Navigator’s list of the top 10 charities with the most consecutive 4-star ratings.
As the nation’s leading nonprofit working on behalf of the 31 million Americans with kidney disease, AKF spends 97 cents of every donated dollar on a broad spectrum of programs and services that touch the lives of millions of people. With generous annual support from 63,000 individuals, corporations and foundations, AKF produces comprehensive kidney disease education materials, provides free kidney health screenings nationwide, funds clinical research to improve outcomes for kidney patients, and provides lifesaving, need-based financial assistance to 1 in every 5 U.S. dialysis patients in all 50 states, making it possible for them to have the comprehensive medical care they need.
“Less than 1 percent of the charities we rate have received at least 15 consecutive 4-star evaluations, indicating that [the] American Kidney Fund outperforms most other charities in America,” said Michael Thatcher, president and CEO of Charity Navigator. “Attaining a 4-star rating verifies that [the] American Kidney Fund exceeds industry standards and outperforms most charities in your area of work. This is our highest possible rating and indicates that your organization adheres to sector best practices and executes its mission in a financially efficient way.”
Charity Navigator evaluates more than 8,000 U.S. charities each year, with an objective rating system that examines a charity's financial health, accountability and transparency. Ratings show givers how efficiently Charity Navigator believes a charity will use their support, how well it has sustained its programs and services over time, and the charity’s level of commitment to good governance, best practices and openness with information.
“Charity Navigator’s positive evaluation is a reminder to the public that if you want to make a difference in the fight against kidney disease, your gift to the American Kidney Fund will fund kidney disease education, prevention, research and treatment—not overhead,” said LaVarne Burton, AKF president and CEO. “We are deeply grateful to the donors who support our work, and we will continue to use their donated dollars in the most efficient, ethical and transparent way possible.”
