ACLS Certification Institute to Host Webinar on Using Narcan to Fight the Opiate Epidemic
Lehi, Utah (PRWEB) November 09, 2016 -- ACLS Certification Institute, a leader in online life support training, will host a live, clinical webinar on November 14 at 2 p.m. Eastern time. The webinar will be presented by Janet Taylor, BSN, a full-time flight nurse for Mercy Life Line from Springfield, MO, and national EMS educator, on how Narcan, the “save shot,” can help fight the sudden increases in opioid related overdoses plaguing the U.S.
“The incidence of opiate overdose has increased at an alarming rate in the U.S. in recent years,” said Judson Smith, Vice President of Continuing Education. “In some areas of the country, more people are dying from opiate overdose than from traffic crashes. We are offering this webinar to healthcare professionals who would benefit from understanding how to use Narcan in these situations.”
During the presentation, Ms. Taylor will discuss substances that fall under the opiate/opioid category as well as the challenges healthcare providers face when dealing with this epidemic in both the prehospital and hospital setting. She will also review the symptoms of an opiate overdose. At the end of the webinar, participants will have the opportunity to interact with Ms. Taylor in a question/answer session.
“I am excited to be part of this webinar to help participants understand how to recognize and properly intervene when they are faced with an opiate overdose victim,” said Ms. Taylor. “My experience as a flight nurse has presented me with a broad range of emergency situations, and I am all-too-familiar with the time-sensitive nature of these types of emergencies. Recognizing the signs and symptoms of overdose and learning how to properly administer Narcan will allow first responders and those who work in emergency medical situations to respond quickly and confidently when faced with an overdose victim.”
The webinar presentation will be held November 14 at 2 p.m. Eastern time. It is free to attend and open to healthcare professionals. Registration is required at https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/447949112086988292
