Sunnova honors Clean Energy Solutions with the Highest Sales Growth Award in recognition of the solar energy provider’s nearly 750% expansion in 2015.

With over $1 billion in funding, Sunnova Energy Corp. is one of the largest solar providers in the country, working with more than 200 partners across 17 states and 4 territories. It recently honored Los Angeles-based solar energy provider, Clean Energy Solutions, with the Highest Sales Growth Award in recognition of its 746% growth throughout 2015.

Southern California leads the nation in total installed photovoltaic (PV) capacity, making it one of the most active solar markets in the world. But it’s also one of the most competitive, with over 4,000 PV installers operating in the greater Los Angeles metro area alone.

Clean Energy Solutions credits its 746% growth to a 3-pronged strategy built around education, customer experience and project speed from start to installation.    

According to company CEO, David Gomez, “Although solar is becoming mainstream, there are still a lot of misconceptions about the technology – people have questions.” He adds that, “Our primary goal was to remove these lingering myths and educate users about the financial and environmental savings available.”

The next step in Clean Energy Solutions’ strategy involved reducing turnaround times as much as possible.

Several cities and counties in California have a notoriously long solar permitting process that can last anywhere from a few weeks to several months. These waits are in addition to the installation itself. To address these challenges, Clean Energy Solutions explored ways to expedite the inspection and approval processes. The company also streamlined its internal operations, allowing it to reduce solar installation times by 75%.

Gomez comments that this acceleration was a critical component of the final piece of their strategy – a new referral program designed to generate more business for the company. “Obviously, speeding up the installation process let us help more customers in a much shorter span of time.” But he adds that,

“The real benefit is that our customers were much happier about their experiences. They didn’t have to wait months to go solar or to begin watching their power bills shrink. This generated a lot of positive referrals, which helped us to continue growing.”

Moving forward, Clean Energy Solutions hopes to further streamline its operations so that it can reduce turnaround times even more. Gomez adds that, “We’ve tackled most of the low-hanging fruit, but there is always room for additional improvement.”
