A new feature segment for Public Television will discuss trends in the culinary world.

In an upcoming, engaging episode of "Front Page" host James Earl Jones hosts a culinary journey to discover new trends in fast/casual dining in the United States. In the short-form documentary, the segment visits with local producers, restaurateurs and diners to discuss the changing environment of food and those who provide it.

The episode previews the changes in technology and education that are changing the way America eats. Fast food and fast casual restaurants are increasingly developing healthy, vegetarian, gluten-free and even vegan menu options. Real food is in demand with a focus on freshness. Beyond the search for more all-natural ingredients, consumers are becoming more discerning in the way their food is sourced and prepared from free-range farming to waste reduction to social-ecological impacts. Many of the large restaurant chains have announced more environmentally friendly menus focused on chef created special elements with authentic or ethnically focused meals prepared on site.
