Carrier-Class Wi-Fi Company Short-listed for Best Wireless Network Infrastructure

SKSpruce Technologies, an emerging Silicon Valley leader in carrier-class Wi-Fi, is a finalist for the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) “Best Next Gen Wi-Fi Network Infrastructure” award, recognizing and celebrating excellence in wireless innovation.

The WBA recently announced the shortlist for its annual WBA Industry Awards 2016, taking place at the Wireless Global Congress, November 16-17 in San Jose, California.

The finalist entry recognizes SKSpruce’s Wi-Fi solution used in the largest integrated Wi Fi/cellular system in the world, deployed in Japan by SoftBank, a leading global carrier with more than 100 million subscribers. The SoftBank Mobile Wi Fi system has 460,000 access points throughout the country seamlessly integrated into their 4G LTE network providing transparent uninterrupted handover between 4G LTE and Wi-Fi, delivering a superior user experience. SoftBank Mobile’s entire Wi-Fi network is controlled by the SKSpruce SKG10000 gateway, and its integration to the core mobile network is provided by SKSpruce.

“Wi-Fi is an important new tool for today’s mobile operators, and will constitute an integral part of their future 4G network,” says Tetsuzo (Ted) Matsumoto, CEO of Japan Link Corporation, and senior advisor of SoftBank. “Extension of coverage and the increased capacity offered backhauled by either optical fiber or 4G LTE is the most cost-effective way to solve network challenges today,” he adds.

Matsumoto will discuss the SoftBank/SKSpruce implementation in his WBA keynote address “Carrier Wi-Fi Essential to Operator’s Future Success” on November 16 at 10:20 a.m.

SKSpruce will showcase its solutions at the WBA Congress at Booth #25, including the SKG10000 Multi-service Gateway, that functions as a high-performance router, switch, WLAN gateway, and access point controller and integrates seamlessly into the core mobile network, allowing network operators to leverage Wi-Fi to cost‑effectively expand the coverage and capacity of 3G/4G networks in dense urban areas, such as transit centers, campuses, stadiums and retail malls.

The SKSpruce solution also includes a full range of access points, a centralized wireless network management system, a services controller for managing users and billing, and an integrated services manager that can help operators monetize subscribers and users. Cost effective and scalable, the complete solution supports more than 120,000 access points and more than 1.3 million subscribers within a single chassis.

The SKSpruce mobile operator Wi-Fi solution delivers five times the capacity with a 50% reduction in capital expense when compared to solutions by leading competitors. It also uses 80% less power and occupies 80% less space in the network operations center than other solutions.

“We are thrilled to receive this recognition from the WBA for what we believe is the first complete carrier Wi-Fi solution in the world of its kind,” says SKSpruce Technologies President, Steve Toteda. “Millions of global users are already taking advantage of SKSpruce-managed Wi-Fi connections every day, enjoying the highest quality of user experience available,” he adds.

SKSpruce Technologies Inc. delivers market leading carrier-grade Wi-Fi solutions that enable carriers and commercial operators to deliver the highest quality user experience. With deep expertise in wireless networking and a culture of innovation, SKSpruce products deliver unmatched scalability and flexible deployment architectures that enable customers to adapt to the rapidly growing bandwidth demands of a mobile world.
