MultiTech’s MultiConnect® mDot™ and MultiConnect® xDot™ LoRaWAN™ Certified Modules Now Supporting New Geographies and Countries in Advance of LoRaWAN spec
Mounds View, MN (PRWEB) November 15, 2016 -- Multi-Tech Systems, Inc., a leading global manufacturer of M2M and IoT devices, today announced version 2.0 of its MultiConnect® mDot™ software platform and MultiConnect® xDot™, a secure endpoint module to communicate over LoRaWAN™ networks. New functionality provides customers in markets that are not supported by the LoRaWAN spec with the flexibility to utilize code in creating new channel plans ideally suited for their region. Additionally, the new module’s software now supports the Australia (AU) channel plan with the MultiConnect mDot now RCM regulatory approved and MultiConnect xDot following soon.
Both MultiConnect mDot and MultiConnect xDot are now formally compliant with the LoRaWAN 1.0.1 specification and are compatible with LoRaWAN Class C operation, a new LoRaWAN capability that efficiently enables remote control and configuration of devices and equipment in the field. Both versions are now FCC Certified with LoRa Alliance™ North American Certification Pending.
“With this newest release, customers are no longer reliant on the releases and official channel plans set forth by the LoRa Alliance in facilitating POCs and testing technology and markets,” said David Smith, Senior VP Engineering and Innovation at MultiTech. “Though our RF module was already compliant with the LoRaWAN specification, compatibility for new markets such as Australia, and the growing demand within these markets further reinforces MultiTech’s LoRaWAN modules excellence and foothold in the industry. Class C compatibility expands the market opportunity beyond sensor harvesting to now include new HVAC and motor control applications, to name a few.”

MultiConnect mDot and MultiConnect xDot LoRaWAN certified modules utilize the new Semtech LoRa®, low power, wide area RF modulation. MultiConnect mDots bring intelligence, reduced complexity and BOM cost to the very edge of the network by running ARM's mbed OS on a low power ARM® Cortex®-M4 series processor. While the MultiConnect xDot provides secure, affordable, extreme battery life for LoRaWAN edge communications.
LoRa is a wireless technology developed to enable low data rate communications over long distances utilizing sensors and actuators for M2M and IoT applications. It is particularly attractive for many applications because of its long-range capability, ability to enable battery operated assets to function for years, and its low cost/high ROI benefits. LoRa’s advantages consist of its excellent range, low power consumption, good data security, and good ability to penetrate obstacles. In addition, it is completely bidirectional, enabling remote control applications.
