OgilvyRED, the global strategic consulting arm of Ogilvy, announced last week a new strategic alliance with Zype, a leader in the OTT (“Over The Top”) technology category. Zype offers a SaaS technology platform that optimizes video content distribution for Brands and Publishers across every major OTT platform: Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Roku, smart TVs, Opera TV, Chromecast, and many others. OgilvyRED and Zype will partner to develop strategic thought leadership around the emergence of OTT and how it can help build clients’ brands more effectively in the non-linear TV space. Working together, the two organizations will advise clients and develop new innovation pilots to leverage OTT capabilities and to develop branded OTT content solutions.
This partnership, which positions OgilvyRED and Zype as the strategic experts in the content and video space, was announced on November 9th at the penthouse of The Chocolate Factory, Ogilvy’s global headquarters. The event, which hosted 200+ executives from the worlds of media, marketing, communications, broadcasting, and beyond, provided attendees the opportunity to test the Zype technology in real-time. This included live demonstrations of Zype’s proprietary cloud-based SaaS platform that delivers video supply-chain consolidation, management, distribution, and analytics of branded OTT applications. The evening, which coincided with the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) annual summit, was hosted by Ed Laczynski, Zype’s Founder & CEO, and Carla Hendra, OgilvyRED’s Global Chairman.

This ongoing partnership will focus on first-of-its-kind thinking that shows how OTT technology can meet the new needs of consumers, whose content consumption behaviors are changing dramatically. By bringing together a premier brand strategy consultancy with an OTT pioneer, OgilvyRED and Zype will be able to lead brands into the rapidly expanding multi-channel content marketplace. Their first piece of joint thought leadership – the third of OgilvyRED’s Think Series papers – is slated to launch in Q1 2017: Building Brands through OTT Content Innovation.
The OTT marketplace is rapidly growing. About 36 percent of U.S. households in 2016 report having at least one streaming media player, which equates to roughly 100 million devices, with that percentage projected to double by 2019.
Subscription-based (SVOD) and ad-supported revenue are projected to nearly double over the next four years from $36B and $15B respectively, while global OTT revenue is projected to double from $36B to $70B by 2021.
