Our employees understand our vision and truly embody our core values of Growth, Respect, Integrity and Trust (GRIT). We discuss the importance of our core values in every single interview we conduct.

The Houston Chronicle has awarded Phonoscope LIGHTWAVE, now PS LIGHTWAVE, the designation of a Top Workplace in Houston 2016. The Houston-headquartered telecommunications company ranks 53rd among 70 companies within the small business category. This is the second time PS LIGHTWAVE has received a Top Workplace in Houston award. The first award was in 2015.

“We are honored to be selected two years in a row as a Top Workplace in Houston,” said Rhonda Cumming, CEO of PS LIGHTWAVE, INC. “It is truly heartwarming to win this distinctive award, as it is based on the anonymous responses from our staff on key measurements of employee satisfaction and company alignment toward common goals. Our reputation for stellar customer service is directly correlated with a deep level of employee engagement. We work hard at that.”

Top Workplace award winners are determined based on the results of employee surveys administered by Workplace Dynamics LLC, a management firm focusing on organizational health research. Out of 280,000 companies in Houston, Workplace Dynamics selected 1,496 companies of 50 employees or more to participate. Companies were judged based on weighed responses to 23 survey questions to determine “how companies measure up in key areas including direction and values, execution on plans, connection with employees, training and work/life balance, relationships with managers, employee engagement, and pay and benefits,” according to an award letter received by PS LIGHTWAVE from John C. McKeon, president and publisher of the Houston Chronicle.

Workplace Dynamics reviewed the results of the surveyed companies and selected a final group of 150 Top Workplaces for 2016, which were split into three categories: 30 large companies, 50 mid-sized and 70 small companies.

“Our hiring process takes aim at not only finding a candidate who we think is a good fit for our organization but also candidates who truly believe we are a good fit for them. We strive to hire employees based on industry knowledge as well as whether they exhibit the soft skills that make a great match for our corporate culture,” said Kurt Rushe, Director of People and Culture for PS LIGHTWAVE. “Our employees understand our vision and truly embody our core values of Growth, Respect, Integrity and Trust (GRIT). We discuss the importance of our core values in every single interview we conduct.”

The end result is a highly productive staff working as a team towards the common goal of customer satisfaction. “We see and treat ourselves as if we are a family,” Rushe said.

Established in Houston in 2010, PS LIGHTWAVE employs over 80 people, which has grown by 30 percent in five years. PS LIGHTWAVE is a WBENC-certified Woman-Owned Business; a participant in the City of Houston’s “Hire Houston First” program; an approved Education E-Rate vendor; and a General Services Administration IT Schedule 70 contract holder.
