Greenberg Traurig’s “The Meltones” Threepeats as the Best Law Firm Band in New York
(PRWEB) November 18, 2016 -- For the third consecutive year, the house band of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, The Meltones, won the annual Law Rocks NYC battle of the bands, held Thursday, Nov. 10 at the Gramercy Theatre in New York City. Now in its fourth year (third in New York City), Law Rocks promotes music education for underprivileged youth.
The Meltones played in support of BOOM!Health. According to the organization’s website, “BOOM!Health enables New Yorkers living with and at highest risk for illness, addiction, homelessness and poverty to realize their full potential by integrating services to create a seamless continuum of prevention and care.”
The winning band was selected on the basis of four factors – sponsorship dollars raised and ticket sales, donations raised, judges’ score, and audience choice. The net event proceeds are shared across all of the charities being played for, with the winning band’s designated charity receiving the largest donation of the night. Greenberg Traurig is a sponsor of the event.
“We are pleased to support our friends at BOOM!Health and the vital work they do for underserved New Yorkers,” said Stephen L. Rabinowitz, co-managing shareholder of the law firm’s New York office and a guitarist for The Meltones. “More than 300 individuals from Greenberg Traurig, from New York and around the world donated to this effort. This effort highlights the fabric of our firm – bringing clients, lawyers and staff together from across our broad platform to work together in giving back to the communities where we live and work.”
The Meltones band members are Rabinowitz and Miami Real Estate Shareholder Burt Bruton on guitar; Christopher A. Cernik, Albany Government Law & Policy shareholder, on the keyboards; Daniel M. Rabinovitz, Boston Litigation shareholder, on trumpet and vocals; Thédoor Melchers, Amsterdam Corporate & Securities shareholder, on trombone; Samantha Perez, receptionist, on vocals; Tracy Newirth, practice development coordinator, on vocals; Tony Hatchett, business director of the Atlanta office, on vocals; Daniel Blumberg, a firm alum, on bass; and special guests Byron Avery and Chuck Langford on drums and saxophone, respectively.
The Meltones, named after a firm founder, Mel Greenberg, has been the Greenberg Traurig “house band” since the mid-1980s.
