1-800-PetMeds Cares™ Names National Havanese Dog Rescue Winner of $1,000 Grant
POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (PRWEB) November 22, 2016 -- 1-800-PetMeds®, America’s Largest Pet Pharmacy®, names The Havanese Angel League Organization for Rescue (HALO) as the winner of the 1-800-PetMeds Cares™ 2016 National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week Contest. The contest was held to recognize National Animal Shelter and Rescue Appreciation Week, which took place November 6 to November 12, 2016.
HALO will receive a $1,000 grant from 1-800-PetMeds Cares™ to aid in its lifesaving work rescuing Havanese dogs from puppy mills. The runners up, Boston Terrier Rescue of Florida, Inc. of Lake Mary, Fla., and Specialty Purebred Cat Rescue of Kenosha, Wis., will receive 1-800-PetMeds’® Flea5X Plus flea preventative.
The 2016 National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week Contest was open to entries from U.S. animal shelters and rescues November 1 to November 9, 2016, and voting was open November 10 to November 20, 2016. U.S. residents 18 (or age of majority in state of residence) and older were able to vote once per 24 hours for an entry.
The three winners were chosen based on the number of votes. HALO will join Indianapolis Animal Care & Control, 2014, and Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue of Texas, 2015, as winners of the annual National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week Contest. The grant will be used to rescue and rehabilitate Havanese dogs from puppy mills across the country.
“We’re proud to support rescues such as HALO that work tirelessly to save pets from puppy mills and other commercial breeding facilities,” said Erin Gleeson, outreach specialist at 1-800-PetMeds®. “We hope the grant aids the rescue’s work by showing pet lovers the reality of puppy mills and encouraging them to get involved, not only by rescuing their next family members but also in ending puppy mills overall.”
The National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week Contest is run through 1-800-PetMeds Cares™, a charitable offshoot of 1-800-PetMeds® which organizes product donations to animal shelters and rescues across the U.S. and runs several annual contests, including the Change a Pet’s Life Contest, to assist animal shelters and rescues.
