On November 4, Dr. Thomas Wright, Medical Director of Laser Lipo and Vein Center, presented a research abstract at the American College of Phlebology’s annual congress.
In the abstract presentation titled “Safety of Tumescent Anesthesia in Venous Vascular Surgeries,” Dr. Wright outlined facts that tumescent anesthesia is the preferred method of anesthesia for saphenous vein ablation. He also presented and discussed additional new technologies that are being used to treat varicose veins that have replaced older treatments such as vein stripping.
This year’s congress also presented talks concerning the surgical treatment of deep and superficial vein disease. Information concerning new medication to treat deep vein thrombosis (DVT) such as Direct Acting Oral Anticoagulants (DOAC) and new treatments for varicose veins, such as VenaSeal, a new vein closure system, were presented. There was also an increased emphasis on Lymphatic Disease with scientific session on lymphedema and lipedema at this year’s annual congress. Of note Academy Award-winning actress Kathy Bates gave a moving talk on the need for improvement in the care of Lymphatic Disease.
