Dominion Enterprises (DE) has announced that its 15th Hackathon will be held December 2. The two-day event invites members of the community to develop, design and analyze data in innovative ways to help the community in Hampton Roads.

The Hackathon is a learning event and open to everyone from novices to experts. It will be held at Dominion Enterprises headquarters in downtown Norfolk. Expert-led workshops facilitated by Microsoft, Amazon, Heroku, United Way and the City of Norfolk will start at 9 a.m. on Friday, December 2. Hacking begins after the workshops and ends at 2 p.m. on Saturday, followed by team presentations. All participants are invited to celebrate the conclusion of the event at an after-party downtown.

Participants will be given data and challenged to create a prototype that tells a story, solves a problem and uses the tools available for data-driven solutions. Teams will be comprised of up to five members.

Teams will be judged on the following criteria for the chance to win prizes:

  • Visualization - Was the data presented in an interactive and visually appealing way?
  • Tooling - How well were existing tools used in the solution?
  • Insight - Did the project identify or propose a solution to a relevant problem?

Participants can also participate in a raffle and will have the chance to receive giveaways and t-shirts. Meals will be provided.

The last day to register for the event is Monday, November 28. Please go to hackathon.dominionenterprises.com to register.
