Two Des Moines businesses, Recycle Me Iowa (http://www.recyclemeiowa.com) and Gravitate, a co-working community, (http://www.gravitatedsm.com) are launching a charitable giving platform as part of #GivingTuesday. The WorkHERO platform from Encast (http://encast.co/) of Austin, Texas, allows employees of companies to make scheduled payroll deductions, find and select causes of interest, and donate.
“I think this is a great way for businesses to get more involved in helping out the community,” said Geoff Wood, founder of Gravitate. “Our members are already very active in the greater Des Moines community and WorkHERO is a natural way for Gravitate to help them support the causes they care about. Giving Tuesday is the perfect day to get rolling on this project.”
Giving Tuesday, which was launched in 2012, was designed to launch the season of giving during the holidays. Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday was created by the Belfer Center for Innovation and Social Impact at the 92nd Street Y in New York City, which was founded on the principles of bringing people together and giving back.
“We’ve built our company and our vision on the same principles as Giving Tuesday,” said Ryan Surber of Encast, Des Moines, Chief Strategy Officer and co-founder of Encast. “We think philanthropy should be a lifestyle for all of us as we learn to give what each of us can. We think there is personal fulfillment in that, and we can all improve our communities and the wider world.”
Encast’s WorkHERO™ platform easily connects with payroll systems to provide employees choices of causes and charities that they want to receive their donations using Encast’s Giving as a Service™. One hundred percent of all donations is delivered to charities without charging a processing fee to either the donor or the recipient.
