Bill Howe Family of Companies’ Named Finalist in BBB Torch Awards

The San Diego Better Business Bureau Torch Awards for Marketplace Ethics celebrates 19 years in 2016 and seeks to promote and highlight companies for ethical business practices. The Torch Awards are open to all business and organizations in San Diego that are in good standing with the BBB. Nominations cover six areas of criteria that demonstrate the company, or organization's, commitment to high standards in the community and integrity for customers. Entries are judged based on the company's' submission by independent community leaders; winners and finalists are announced at the Torch Award Ceremony each year in late November or early December. In addition to the awards, the BBB with generous help from their sponsor partner, SDG&E, present students with several levels of scholarships for their own essay submissions on integrity. This year, the ceremony was held at the Hyatt Regency in La Jolla.
The Bill Howe Family of Companies has participated in the Torch Award for Marketplace ethics since 2010, and has been chosen as a finalist five times, including this year. “Our goal in participating in the Torch award is not to receive the honor, but in the creation of our nomination each year,” said Tina Howe, Vice President of the Bill Howe Family of Companies’. “We work on it throughout the year, and it really helps is to continue growing and becoming a better company. We take an in-depth look at our business practices, employee relations, community outreach to better understand how we are meeting our goals, and discover new and better ways to serve our customers.”
This year, the plumbing company in San Diego submitted the 180-page nomination online highlighting how they meet the principles of TRUST! through Transformation at the Top, Reinforce and Build, Unite the Team, Steer Performance, Treasure People, and Enthusiastically Reinvest. They were chosen as a finalist in the medium business category with 100-199 employees.
