Business Leaders Unite to Focus on Solutions to Solve Growing Skills Gap at INFORM® Journeys & LEAD San Diego Education Day Summit
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) December 06, 2016 -- With declining job growth in key job sectors coupled with a growing skills gap, the need for business leaders to be directly involved in the discussion around how students are prepared for their future careers has never been greater. With this focus in mind, LEAD San Diego’s IMPACT class held their Education Day Summit, Sponsored by INFORM Journeys. The attendees were able to hear how the Journey platform can be the conduit between the business and education industries to accomplish this goal.
Discussions centered around the following topics:
• Preparing students for a rapidly changing job landscape.
• Closing the skills gap for current and future careers.
• The need for businesses to be active participants in preparation of their future employees.
• How innovative districts are radically changing their learning environments to meet the needs of college and career preparation
Peter Sibley, CEO of Journeys, opened the discussion by questioning if students are future ready and the innovative risks all of us must take in order to adequately prepare students for their futures. The IMPACT class was then able to see a live demo of Journeys, led by Scott Sibley, and hear how business’s will play an important role in the curation of content found inside the Journeys platform. Tim Baird, Superintendent of the award winning Encinitas Unified School District, spoke about cultivating a unique and engaged student community on the Encinitas campuses based upon four key tenets: academic excellence, 21st century learning, health and wellness and environmental stewardship.
“The current rate of innovation we are experiencing is accelerating faster than any other time in human history,” said Peter Sibley, “65% of today’s grade-school students will enter jobs that haven’t’ been invented yet. Innovative and disruptive solutions are needed in order to address the need for a regional approach to connecting education to the world of work.”
“Because INFORM Journeys’ innovative solution-based content is universally relevant to life-long learners, the response from the IMPACT class to the Journeys’ presentation was outstanding,” said Lorin Stewart, CEO of LEAD San Diego. “Ultimately, the Journeys story is about the business of innovation, which presents both great challenges and opportunities for 21st century business leaders.”
