Fairfield, California's Suisun Valley Wine Region Celebrates Anniversary
Fairfield, California (PRWEB) December 08, 2016 -- Only a few minutes from busy I-80 in Fairfield lies the Suisun Valley, where vineyards dominate the landscape and wineries produce award-winning vintages. The Suisun (pronounced SUE-soon) Valley has roots dating back to the 1800s and represents more than a century of continuous wine grape growing activity.
Every year, the vintners and growers in the valley take a break during the holidays to celebrate the anniversary of Suisun Valley being recognized as an American Viticultural Area (AVA). On Monday, December 26, guests can take part in the 34th anniversary celebration, tasting award-winning Suisun Valley wines paired with gourmet food, while mingling with friends and winemakers at participating wineries.
The region received formal American Viticultural Area (AVA) recognition in 1982, just a year after Napa Valley, and is part of the North Coast Appellation. Wineries offering wine tasting are BackRoad Vines, Blue Victorian Winery, Seven Artisans Winery, Tenbrink Vineyards, Vezér Family Vineyard, and Wooden Valley Winery, which has been crafting wine from the valley since 1933. Blacksmith Cellars, King Andrew Vineyards, Mangel Vineyards, and Sunset Cellars have banded together to offer tastings as the Suisun Valley Wine Co-op. Neighboring Green Valley features Galvin Family Cellars, GV Cellars, and Rock Creek Vineyard.
A portion of the proceeds from the Suisun Valley AVA Anniversary Celebration will be donated to the Dr. Richard E. Zimmerman fund at the Sutter Medical Foundation. Admission: Guests can buy a logo wine glass for $20, which will serve as their ticket to wine tasting, small bites, and all event festivities. Hours: 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. For more information: http://www.suisunvalley.com.
