San Rafael precision instrument manufacturer Berkeley Nucleonics has announced the next generation of handheld radiation detection tools for first responders, government, environmental safety and anyone requiring a ruggedized radiation detector.

The Model SAM 950 boasts a touch screen, PDA operable, water and shock resistant ruggedized shell and a one click reach-back service supported by FEMA. It has a wide range of applications from Homeland Security to Hazmat and Environmental Waste Management. The Sam 950 is designed to meet the requirements of ANSI 42.34 criteria for handheld instruments for detection and identification of radionuclides. The SAM 950 is designed to provide state of the art reach-back capabilities rarely seen in the industry. By implementing a reach-back feature, the SAM 950 allows users to upload data, readings, video and audio to either a command center or the Radresponder network. Sponsored by FEMA the Radresponder network is a free network for logging, transmitting, storing, analyzing, and presenting environmental radiation monitoring data. With a built in ruggedized speaker system and a 13 MP camera, the 950 is equipped for any situation, allowing the end-user to record, store and replay audio and video at full HD. Berkeley Nucleonics aims to combat obsolescence, and the SAM 950 was designed with this in mind. BNC provides free, automatic software updates, ensuring lifetime value and lowering the overall operations cost as the device does not need to be sent back for repairs.

Berkeley Nucleonics will continue its accredited training programs for the SAM 940 and SAM 945 simultaneously. Our classroom and field exercises are ideal for users new to the radiation detection field or users tasked with developing protocols using a suite of various instruments and technical personnel.
