Tech Strategies to Streamline Incentive Programs and Enhance ROI

Easily won, instantly redeemable rewards with high personal value give counter salespeople much greater incentive to promote a particular brand.

Emerging technology has opened the door to new incentive program uses, according to Steve Damerow, CEO of Atlanta-based incentive company Incentive Solutions. Leading automotive distribution magazine Counterman recently published Damerow’s article “Tech Strategies to Streamline Incentive Programs and Enhance ROI,” which offers auto parts manufacturers strategic ways to use online and mobile technology to make sales incentive programs more effective.

The problems businesses traditionally faced when implementing incentive programs, Damerow says, were “staff to manage the program and inadequate or non-existent methods of measuring its ROI.” New online and mobile technology, however, makes it easy to exchange data needed to verify sales claims. Additionally, digital sales tracking tools and program activity reports help determine incentive program ROI.

Technology like intelligent character recognition (ICR), integrated with online and mobile incentive programs, allows counter salespeople to scan and send receipts with qualifying products identified. This helps eliminate incentive program fraud and relieves salespeople of having to fill out claims forms or mail in receipts. After validating the sale with receipt verification, the manufacturer can then distribute online reward points to the counter salesperson.

“Easily won, instantly redeemable rewards with high personal value give counter salespeople much greater incentive to promote a particular brand’s aftermarket services, sell supplemental or high-margin items and promote impulse purchases of their product,” Damerow says.

Reducing potential for fraud and speeding up the flow of validating purchase data allows manufacturers to deliver counter salespeople faster incentive rewards. With online technology that facilitates instant reward delivery, sales incentive programs have the potential to make a much larger impact on sales motivation than ever before.
