Swiss Post Solutions Report Reveals 63% of North American Universities Outsource Campus Auxiliary Services
(PRWEB) December 15, 2016 -- Swiss Post Solutions (SPS), a leading outsourcing provider of digital document management and mailroom solutions, released its SPS Outsourcing Index: Higher Education Trends report, revealing the auxiliary service outsourcing practices of North American higher education institutions. The questionnaire circulated to decision makers and influencers of colleges and universities focused on campus operations including mailroom management, records management, managed print services, food and beverage, and facilities services.
With many of these organizations wrestling with increasing operating costs, colleges and universities nationwide are seeking functional and strategic solutions to address financial challenges. The SPS market study reveals the types of schools that are benefiting from outsourcing, the challenges and motivations behind the most widely outsourced auxiliary services, and future trends of providing campus services. The survey provides insights from a broad base of collegiate institutions and found a clear interest in further deploying outsourcing programs by those that currently outsource and those who do not.
According to the research, about 70% of large institutions (over 20,000 students) are currently outsourcing auxiliary functions and 62% of all schools not outsourcing are considering it. For mid-sized schools (10,000 – 20,000 students), 56% are strategically deploying outsourcing solutions for auxiliary management programs. Across campuses of all sizes, the most frequently outsourced services are bookstore (64%), mailroom (57%) food and beverage (53%), and centralized reprographics/copy center (36%). Additionally, facilities, and print management services were also named.
The survey participants reported on their primary motivators and objectives for outsourcing. 73% stated that creating cost savings was a key objective, an increase from 55.88% in SPS’ previous survey in 2014. The ability to obtain qualified personnel, however weighed heavily in the decision making as 30.77% confirmed this as a principle motivator which is a five-fold increase from the results in 2014.
Chief Operating Officer of SPS North America, Art Tatge, gave his insights, “We have partnered with our higher education clients to help them successfully regain control of costs. We have also enhanced service levels provided to the students, faculty, and staff using those auxiliary services by leveraging SPS’s expertise and industry best practices.”
