Class 3 Graduation Celebrates Young Adults Who Have Successfully Completed Targeted Job Training and Professional Internships

Celebrating the hard work and determination of its newest graduating class, Year Up Jacksonville announced today that Melissa Nelson will deliver the keynote address at its Class 3 graduation ceremony. Nelson recently was elected state attorney for Florida’s 4th Judicial Circuit and takes office Jan. 3.

The graduation ceremony will take place on Thursday, December 15th at 11:00 AM, in the Downtown Auditorium located at Florida State College Jacksonville’s downtown campus at 101 West State Street. The event is open to the public; please RSVP to Richard Naylor at RNaylor@yearup.org.

“We’re honored to have Melissa address our newest class of graduates,” said Robin Tanya Watson, Year Up Jacksonville’s Executive Director. “Melissa is a supporter of our work in connecting young adults in need of an opportunity with companies in need of talent, and we look forward to partnering with her to help more young people in Jacksonville enter careers in growing industries.”

Year Up Jacksonville is a nonprofit job-training program that launched in January 2015 in partnership with Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ). Year Up students spend one semester gaining technical and professional skills, followed by a full-time, credit-bearing internship at a top local company. They can then complete their associate’s degree the following year. Ninety-four percent of Year Up Jacksonville’s Class 3 graduates are either employed or attending college full-time, with average starting salaries of $17.32/hour.
