Second Avenue Learning Expands Leadership Team with Two New Hires
Rochester, N.Y. (PRWEB) December 13, 2016 -- Second Avenue Learning, a leader in the design and development of serious games and interactive learning environments for K-12, higher education and corporate markets, welcomes Director of Strategic Partnerships Laura Boothroyd and Vice President of Technology Richard Carey to its expanding team. In these new roles, Boothroyd and Carey will support the growing capabilities and services at Second Avenue Learning, and expand the company’s footprint to cover the greater Boston and New York City areas.
“We are always looking for new ways to support educators and learners,” said Victoria Van Voorhis, founder and CEO of Second Avenue Learning. “The cumulative depth of knowledge that Laura and Richard have in education, professional development, gaming and technology will bolster our efforts to reimagine and improve learning.”
Boothroyd has a rich background, working closely with schools and corporations to build innovative solutions to solve their complex challenges. Most recently, she headed up the education market strategy at Burning Glass, an analytics software firm that supports learner recruiting, retention and outcomes, as well as content development in higher education and corporate learning markets. Previously, Boothroyd built the consulting and client relations functions at Eduventures, a nationally recognized education market research and advisory firm.
“One of my greatest passions is to optimize learner outcomes, whether in K-12, higher education or corporate learning,” Boothroyd said. “Second Avenue Learning strives to do exactly that. The team’s combination of innovation and mission makes joining the company a natural fit.”
Carey has two decades of experience developing apps, games, educational technology and transmedia entertainment, including serving as the director of research and development for Scholastic’s Internet and Software Group. In addition, he held the role of director of technology product development for Pearson Learning Group, where he introduced games and simulations to the company’s repertoire of learning technology. Carey’s most recent projects include learning simulations, games and virtual worlds, online learning management systems, and web applications for consumer, corporate and educational markets.
“The rapidly changing education landscape and continual advances in technical infrastructure make room for exciting uses of games and simulations, virtual reality and augmented reality,” Carey said. “My new position with Second Avenue is an opportunity to work with a great team, and put my experience and skills to practice in order to make it easier for students of all ages to learn.”
