Robust search capabilities and single sign-on integration in OneCampus allows users to quickly find and access the campus services they need

Unlike our previous system — which was not flexible for easy content addition or personalization, and required heavy ongoing technical maintenance and support — the OneCampus system has everything we are looking for.

Like many institutions of higher education, Washington University in St. Louis (WashU) has a broad web landscape with almost every school, department, and target audience having a dedicated website. With so many sources available, finding information and resources quickly has been challenging, which is why the university is turning to OneCampus from rSmart® to provide end-users with an easy-to-navigate, customizable next generation portal.

OneCampus from rSmart is a lightweight, cloud-based portal that makes it easy for colleges and universities to organize their web-based campus services in one location. Unlike traditional portals, OneCampus provides a Google-like search tool that allows students, faculty, and staff to quickly locate and access services — such as grades, class schedules, calendars, email, events, curriculum, tutoring services, and more. For administrators, the system provides real-time data to make informed decisions about campus services. It also allows administrators to convey important or time-sensitive information through announcements, alerts, and featured tasks.

The need for colleges and universities to shift their thinking when redesigning campus portals was a key topic at this year’s EDUCAUSE conference. Presenters emphasized over and over that the user experience was equally as important as technology and infrastructure issues, something the WashU team clearly kept top of mind.

“Our key objective was to provide end-users with a system that presents information based on their affiliation with the university, and does so in an easy, user-friendly way. Unlike our previous system — which was not flexible for easy content addition or personalization, and required heavy ongoing technical maintenance and support — the OneCampus system has everything we are looking for,” said Scott Taylor, Assistant Vice Chancellor – Enterprise Applications for WashU. “The system’s robust search capabilities, filters, and single sign-on integration will allow all our users to quickly find and access the services they need.”

“Today’s college students have high expectations for technology. They want to navigate life on campus and figure things out the way they usually do: by going online and doing a quick search. With OneCampus, rSmart is delivering the digital, mobile experience parents, teachers, and staff want, with the ease and efficiency universities need,” said rSmart CEO Tony Potts. “We are honored to help Washington University in St. Louis build a new system that will serve students, faculty, staff, parents, and university guests and visitors, and provide them with a one-stop location to access the information they need. Our goal in supporting our customers has always been to align OneCampus with their strategic initiatives, to improve the user experience, and engage the education community.”
