North American Title Group Names Torres VP Regional Counsel

Accomplished title attorney brings broad expertise in underwriting and claims, as well as trial experience

Her career focus on title insurance has covered the breadth of title and escrow, claims, bankruptcy, contract negotiation and trials.

North American Title Group, LLC (NATG) has named Suzette Z. Torres vice president, regional counsel for its California region. She will provide legal and underwriting support to North American Title Company, Inc. (NATC) branches throughout the state, as well as underwriting support to North American Title Insurance Company agents.

“Suzette’s comprehensive experience will be of immense benefit to our managers and associates, as they address the challenging legal, regulatory, title and underwriting matters that are so much a part of their day-to-day work,” said NATC regional president Dia Demmon. “Her career focus on title insurance has covered the breadth of title and escrow, claims, bankruptcy, contract negotiation and trials, including writing several appellate briefs. We know she will be a valuable asset and a great resource to our California team.”

Prior to joining NATG, Torres was with another national underwriter, first as vice president/trial counsel and most recently as vice president/underwriting counsel based in San Francisco. Formerly, she was a partner at Bardellini, Straw, Cavin & Bupp LLP, where her practice included resolving title and escrow claims, negotiating business disputes, managing contract negotiations, trials and handling several adversary proceedings in bankruptcy.

“When I saw the chance to be a part of North American Title Company, I knew I had to make the jump,” Torres said. “At NATC, I am surrounded every day by great people who have a wealth of knowledge and are highly respected in this business. I saw it as a great opportunity to work with a talented team, and a position where I could put my litigation and underwriting skills to good use.”

Torres received her Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of California at Berkeley and Juris Doctor from Golden Gate University in San Francisco. She is a member of the board of governors for the California Women Lawyers organization and is also an active member of the In-House Counsel Network of that organization. She is co-chair of the Asian American Bar Association of the Greater Bay Area’s In-House Counsel Committee and is also a board member at large for the Contra Costa County Bar Association – Women’s Section.
