3Discovered Adds GPI to Distributed Manufacturing Platform as a Fabricator of 3D Printed Metal Parts and Products
Chicago (PRWEB) February 09, 2016 -- 3Discovered, a distributed manufacturing platform that facilitates sourcing and fabrication of commercial-grade 3D printed parts and products, announced today that GPI Prototype & Manufacturing Services, Inc. of Lake Bluff, IL has joined its network of Trusted 3D Printing Service Bureau Partners as a fabricator of 3D printed metal parts and products.
An early adopter of additive manufacturing (3D printing) technologies, GPI applies a metal 3D printing process known as Direct Metal Laser Melting (DMLM) to build fully dense and functional parts from powdered metal alloys, one layer at a time.
GPI currently operates ten DMLM machines with twenty-five dedicated employees working to revolutionize the way parts are designed and manufactured. The company’s DMLM printers manufacture prototypes and production parts in aluminum, three types of stainless steels, tool steel, titanium, and cobalt chrome. All of which are ideally suited for fabricating parts with complex geometries that are impossible to produce with traditional machining.
“We are enthusiastic about joining 3Discovered’s network of 3D printing fabricators with our production experience. We believe their platform greatly simplifies the process for 3D printed parts, which have already been validated for production requirements. This platform will help the growth of additive manufacturing across all industries,” said Adam Galloway, President of GPI.
GPI joins a growing number of commercial-grade 3D printing fabricators in 3Discovered’s service bureau network and expands the platform’s ability to supply 3D printed parts in a large selection of materials for a variety of end uses. Ideal for sourcing “long tail” products to minimize inventories, and spare parts for machines and equipment no longer available off the shelf, 3Discovered’s platform makes it possible for companies to source products using the latest and most sophisticated 3D printing technologies without costly investments in machinery and process. 3Discovered also protects the intellectual property of design owners and facilitates instant price quotes for parts sourced from its network.
“GPI is a great addition to our network of service bureaus and we are excited to be able to offer their sophisticated metal 3d printing capabilities on our distributed manufacturing and sourcing platform,” said Peer Munck, CEO of 3Discovered. “This is going to be good for our clients, and good for the industry as a whole.”
