Professional Ultimate Frisbee Championship to Feature Philadelphia Spinners and Portland Stags at Franklin Field at the University of Pennsylvania on July 16
Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) July 05, 2016 -- The top ultimate frisbee players in the country are coming to Philadelphia on July 16 to showcase their skills in pursuit of professional ultimate’s greatest prize - the MLU Championship trophy.
Major League Ultimate, founded in 2012, is based in Philadelphia, Pa, and operates teams in 8 markets across the United States and Canada. Teams compete over the course of 10 game season in two regional conferences - The Eastern Conference and the Western Conference.
The two conference champions, the Philadelphia Spinners and the Portland Stags will meet to play for the MLU Championship on July 16 at Franklin Field at the University of Pennsylvania. The game is set to kick off at 6:30 PM ET.
Played in over 80 countries around the world, ultimate frisbee is one of the fastest growing team sports played in the country, with over 5 millions people playing in organized leagues in the United States. Major League Ultimate, now in its fourth season, represents the highest level of professional ultimate in the world.
“The sport of ultimate has been around for a long time, but only recently have people had an opportunity to see the best in the world compete," says MLU Executive VP Nic Darling. "This game will bring the top players to Philadelphia and put them on the biggest stage we have."
Franklin Field at the University of Pennsylvania has been an iconic landmark in Philadelphia athletics since the 19th century. Owned and operated by the University of Pennsylvania, the stadium has been home to some of the nation's most prestigious sporting events.
In addition to Penn’s Quakers football program, the 121 year old stadium has played host to the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles, the annual Army-Navy Game and the Penn Relays, the oldest and largest track and field competition in the nation. The stadium also played home to the Spinners for part of their 2014 season, and served as the venue for the 2013 MLU Championship between Boston Whitecaps and the San Francisco Dogfish.
Fans will enjoy a full day of activities, including the Weyerbacher Tailgate Party and Postgame Celebration at City Tap House in University City, a pre-game kid's clinic run by MLU coaches and players, and an opportunity to qualify for the $10,000 disc throw presented by Innova Discs.

The game will also be live streamed on MLU Live starting at 6:20 PM ET and will be available to an international audience.
