Owners Sue and Erik Hendrickson said: “We are thrilled to bring this unique concept to Pittsburgh. We fell in love with this city, and our ability to host our neighbors is both a privilege and a pleasure.”
The vision for Colony is suggested in its name – people coming together to enjoy shared interests: coffee, wine, food and cats. Guests can take part in Colony’s offerings all together or separately, making it a great option as a local coffee shop, wine bar, or traditional cat cafe.
Colony is located at 1125 Penn Avenue in Pittsburgh, around the corner from the Heinz History Center. The cafe will be open from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm, Tuesday through Saturday. Hours for the Cat Loft will be 11:00 am to 9:00 pm, with a cat nap closure from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
On opening day, Colony, which will offer all guests a free sample of brewed coffee from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Come take a break from the day and see what the Colony family has to offer.
Colony partners with Animal Friends, a local full-service animal welfare organization, who will provide Colony with vaccinated, spayed/neutered and microchipped cats, who will reside at the cafe until they are adopted.

Swisher, President & CEO of Animal Friends. “As the exclusive shelter partner with Colony – Pittsburgh’s Cat Cafe – we see an exciting opportunity to find lifelong, loving homes for our feline residents, and extend our community outreach and education, which are key elements of our mission.”
By way of background, the first floor of Colony will house a traditional neighborhood cafe, serving hand-crafted espresso drinks and coffee as well as wine and specialty cocktails from the exclusively Pennsylvania-made spirits selection. Colony will bake their own sweet treats from family recipes and prepare satisfying savory menu items to pair with wine and cocktails. Nightly Happy Hour specials starting at 4:30 pm will announced shortly.
Upstairs will house Colony Cafe’s Cat Loft, where guests may lounge with adoptable cats for hour-long sessions and enjoy drinks and snacks as well. All Cat Loft guests will sign an online waiver, which states the rules of the Loft and guidelines of how to safely interact with our cats. All cafe guests are welcome to visit with the cats without a reservation, should there be an available time slot. To avoid wait time, guests are encouraged to reserve Cat Loft visits online prior to visiting the cafe. Currently, Cat Loft visits are priced per person at $8.00 per hour.
Colony features a diverse wine selection, tasty menu as well as coffee exclusively from Ruby Colorful Coffees and a tea selection from Rishi.
