The Buffalo-based agency announces their first poetry slam for Friday, Feb. 24.

Clearview Resolution Services will be hosting a poetry slam to celebrate Black History Month. The event is open to family, friends and community members who wish to enjoy the rhythmic stylings of the talented staff. The slam will be held Friday, Feb. 24 at Clearview’s office in Amherst, NY, and participants are encouraged to recite published poetry, original poetry, or sing a song of their choice. Clearview will also provide food and beverages for guests and staff to enjoy while participants perform.

This event is inspired by well-known African-American greats such as Langston Hughes, Nikki Giovanni and Maya Angelou with “Phenomenal Woman,” which is a favorite among the Clearview staff. Phyllis Wheatley is another important historical figure Clearview would like to honor.

Phyllis Wheatley was America’s first African-American female poet to be published. She was a strong woman born in West Africa and transported to North America at age 7, where she was sold into slavery. Wheatley was later freed from slavery, and her poetry inspired so many young people to express their feelings, dreams and imagination.

In honor of this history and spirit, Clearview would like to invite staff, friends and family to come celebrate Black History Month at their first poetry slam.
