"There is a story hidden in the wordless tones of Booth’s compositions, with moments of triumph, loss, and sweet repose…Her choices are bold and innovative."

The Annie Booth Trio is among the list of music groups to perform in Austin, Texas at this year’s South By Southwest (SXSW) Festival. The jazz trio, which has become a household name on the Denver jazz scene, is led by pianist-composer Annie Booth and includes bassist Patrick McDevitt and drummer Alejandro Castaño. This is the first SXSW appearance for the Annie Booth Trio, who will be performing as part of one of the festival’s jazz showcases on Saturday, March 18th at the Elephant Room in Austin, TX.
Annie Booth has established herself as an active force on the Denver jazz scene as both a leader of her own group and as a busy side-woman with a variety of projects. She has performed internationally, most recently being a tour of Mexico with the Greg Gisbert Quartet in the summer of 2016 as part of the “New York Jazz All-Stars Series” in conjunction with Jazz At Lincoln Center. She has twice been named “Best in Denver” in the jazz genre by Denver’s Westword magazine in 2015 and 2016 and was featured as part of Jazz 89.3 KUVO’s “30-under-30” highlight, as were her trio-mates McDevitt and Castaño. She is a 2017 recipient of the ASCAP Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer’s Award and was awarded the ASCAP Phoebe Jacobs Prize for 2017, an award that goes to one promising young female jazz composer each year.
