The presentation “Cinematography for Video Games - A New Workplace for DoPs?” will be shown as part of a few demonstrations by the Global Cinematography Institute during the IMAGO “Teaching Cinematography” Conference and Workshops in Munich Germany on March 13-17, 2017.

Global Cinematography Institute was founded in 2011 by Directors of Photography Yuri Neyman, ASC and the late Vilmos Zsigmond, ASC (Oscar Winner in Cinematography for Close Encounters of the Third Kind).

The technological changes in cinematography that have occurred in recent times clearly show that there is a need to study the results of these changes more in depth, as part of a new era in teaching cinematography. Do the traditional methods still apply? Cinematography in Video Games presents an interesting “Food for Thought”.

At one time it was the game industry that wanted to emulate film, but now the movie industry is adopting the technology of video games. The visual sophistication and design of game imagery already requires a professional image creating experience from those who are equally knowledgeable in traditional and virtual cinematography.

As a part of its trademarked Expanded Cinematography® Program, Global Cinematography Institute has taught its “Cinematography for Video Games” class since 2012. One of GCI’s most notable students, Dori Arazi, is the Director of Photography on one of PlayStation®4’s most anticipated games of the year, “God of War” produced by SIE Santa Monica Studio.

Mr. Dori Azari currently teaches at GCI and will present, alongside GCI President and Director of Photography Yuri Neyman, ASC, at the IMAGO Conference as a part of the Educational Cooperation Initiative between SIE Santa Monica Studio and Global Cinematography Institute. As a portion of this initiative, Director of Photography Yuri Neyman, ASC will be conducting a series of lectures titled “Art of Light” for game artists at SIE Santa Monica Studio.
