Franklin County Visitors Bureau Invites All to Race into Spring
(PRWEB) March 07, 2017 -- Calling all runners to Franklin County PA: Runners from all over will find companionship in the running clubs, specialty stores and many charity, memorial and qualifying races both challenging and relaxed in the county.
With rolling hills and a challenging course, the 39th Annual Chambersburg Half Marathon will push its racers in this qualifying run. This race begins Saturday, March 11 at the Chambersburg Area Middle School at 8:30am. For more information and to register, visit http://www.chambersburghalf.org. This is one of the events sponsored by the Chambersburg Road Runners club.
Enjoy a run over the largest lattice type bridge in Pennsylvania during the Martins Mill Covered bridge 5 Mile Challenge. On Saturday, April 1, starting at 8:30 a.m., runners can take on this 5-mile run through Antrim Township Park and beyond as they will cross the newly renovated bridge. Stretch your legs at the Cowans Gap 5K at Cowans Gap State Park on Sunday, April 9 at 2pm. The course will take runners on the park roads, including through the campgrounds and cabin. The run benefits the park for educational programming, facility upgrades and preservation efforts. All finishers will receive medallions containing ash from the park’s last ash tree. The Greencastle Flyers Running Club hosts many different runs for enthusiasts, but one of their biggest events is the Greencastle Pub Run. This year, the half marathon will be held April 15 starting at 8:15 a.m. This race begins at John Allison Public House’s new location on South Antrim Way and includes a kid’s race, a 5K and a 10K. For those looking to put the ‘fun’ in fun run, the un-timed Splash Your Sole 5K will be taking place at Norlo Park on May 13 starting at 8am. This colorful event, hosted by Summit Health, promotes health and wellness and residents get splashed with environmentally-friendly color as they run at 4 stations along the course. On June 2, run for a good cause during the Race Against Poverty held by the South Central Community Action Program in downtown Chambersburg. Several Olympians have run the Tom Ausherman Memorial 5-Mile Run in Chambersburg but runners of all abilities can test their mettle in this race on Saturday, August 12 at 8:30 a.m. This race was created to honor Tom Ausherman, an avid runner and active in the Marine Corps.
