He warns about the many pitfalls that trap the unwary, even what happened to a High Court Judge. In this book, he recounts many fascinating events, beginning with a landmark case while articled, all the way through acting for such colourful clients as impresarios, actors, airline captains and members of both houses of parliament, to ultimately being chosen out of thousands of solicitors by the Prime Minister himself for his party’s prestigious new London headquarters.

An excerpt from the book:
I suppose we have all heard the joke where a solicitor is walking down the road and spots a client going the other way. The solicitor shouts, “Good day!” and gets the reply, “Hello, how are you?” The solicitor replies, “Fine”, and walks to his office where he prepares a bill stating “To attending you, and giving advice – ten guineas”.

A motivating read, “The Shine of Life” reveals a unique professional career leading one remarkable man to unexpected elevated heights of people of standing in the community. It describes many legal pitfalls and highlights several odd situations in society, often in a humorous way.
