Sanctioning of Westminster Doctor Underlines the Importance of Considering Only Board Certified Plastic Surgeons, says Dr. J.
Beverly Hills, CA (PRWEB) April 13, 2017 -- An April 3 article in the Orange County Register reports that a doctor in the city of Westminster has been put on probation and barred from performing certain procedures by the California state medical board. The doctor reportedly had no formal training in plastic surgery but had been performing liposuction and mini-tummy tucks. Numerous issues have been alleged, including excessively large scars and a burn on one patient’s abdominal wall. Beverly Hills-based plastic surgeon Payam Jarrah-Nejad, M.D., F.I.C.S., F.A.C.S., known more familiarly to his patients as Dr. J, says that the incident should be a reminder to prospective plastic surgery patients of the importance of making sure they are only considering reputable and experienced doctors who are board certified plastic surgeons.
Dr. J notes that, as it appeared in the Westminster case, not all medical doctors are trained or qualified to perform plastic surgery. Dr. J, who is double board certified by both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery, notes that members of the public do not always understand the significance of board certification. The doctor states that board certification is a highly rigorous process which proves that a surgeon has been judged competent to perform a variety of procedures by one of the leading physicians’ organizations.
Dr. J adds that it’s important to make certain that a surgeon is qualified in a number of ways. While board certification is crucial, it’s important to make certain that the doctor is actually certified for the procedure you are intending to have. It’s possible, for example, for a doctor to be certified in general surgery, but not in plastic surgery. It’s also important, of course, to make certain that the doctor has a background performing the particular procedure you have in mind. It’s best if you can see a number of before-and-after photographs to see how past procedures have worked out for patients.
Finally, Dr. J notes that there’s no substitute for hearing the actual past experiences of former patients to find out whether they feel they have benefitted from their procedure. Dr. J notes that his past work can be seen on the numerous pictures on his website, as well as on social media at Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat – as well as on numerous five-star reviews from happy patients at Yelp and RealSelf.
