Disinformation Shrouds Ride Share Driver Income
West Palm Beach, Florida (PRWEB) April 20, 2017 -- Every day thousands of people with a four-door car and some extra time sign up to drive for one of the major ride share companies. Many are engaging in that business without understanding the risks and no clear idea of how much they can make driving for ride share companies like Uber and Lyft. Bad Trip - An Inside View of the Ride Share Industry is a new book by journalist and author, Chris Poindexter, cuts through the disinformation.
For Poindexter the journey started when he was researching an article on ways seniors can make extra money. “I couldn’t get a good answer to how much ride share drivers make,” he says. “There were answers from $5 to $65 an hour. There’s a lot of disinformation out there and I couldn’t get defensible numbers.” To cut through the confusion and get those answers the veteran researcher took time off from his writing business to drive for both major ride share companies. “It was a very illuminating experience,” he says, “and it generated the earnings data I needed.”
In the book Mr. Poindexter shares how those thinking about driving for either of the major rideshare companies can use publicly available information and a calculator to estimate how much they’re likely to earn as a driver. Beyond that, the author covers the totality of the driving experience from choosing a car to dealing with riders to the sometimes hilarious struggle with automated support responses.
Poindexter says not everyone is cut out for ride share driving and anyone considering it should understand the dynamics. “There are risks drivers should know about,” he says. “Get the facts before putting an asset like your car on the line.” He also discusses the future of the ride share industry itself. “I’m not at all convinced the concept can stretch to the enterprise level,” he maintains.
Bad Trip - An Inside View of the Ride Share Industry is available in both print and ebook format on Amazon.
