Stago to Discuss Direct Oral Anticoagulant Screening in Webinar for the Stago EdVantage Virtual University
Yorba Linda, Ca (PRWEB) April 20, 2017 -- As part of the Stago EdVantage Virtual University Virtual Event, this new webinar will explore challenging patient cases when screening for direct oral anticoagulant. When patients taking direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) are admitted to the hospital, there may be a need for bridging parental anticoagulation especially for those at high risk of thrombosis recurrence.
By presenting information on DOAC interference in laboratory assays, institutional experience, and case studies, this webinar will address questions surrounding management of patients on DOAC therapy. Attendees of this webinar will learn from instances when presented with challenging cases, and be able to show how traditional and other laboratory measures can help guide safe, appropriate therapy.
Participants will also be able to gain a better understanding of how to identify the effects of DOACs, as well as describe common errors that are seen in practice when the effect of DOACs on common anticoagulation laboratory measures is not realized.
The speaker for this event will be Dr. Michael P Gulseth, PharmD, BCPS, FASHP. He is the program director for Anticoagulation Services at Sanford USD Medical Center & Clinical. He is also an associate professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine.
Gulseth is a recognized expert in the area of anticoagulation administration and safety, having developed the 2017 ISMP Medication Safety Self-Assessment for Antithrombotic Therapy. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in this area. In addition, he regularly serves as an editor for publications and presents at conferences of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). He was elected as a fellow of the ASHP in 2011 and serves on the editorial advisory board of American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy (AJHP).
LabRoots will host the webinar April 26, 2017, commencing at 6:00 a.m. PDT. To learn more about the Stago EdVantage Virtual University Virtual Event, the continuing education credits offered, or to register for free, click here.
