Traverse City Tourism Hires Jennifer Buechel as New Media/Public Relations Manager
Traverse City, MI (PRWEB) April 21, 2017 -- Jennifer Buechel, known to northern Michigan residents for her work as a reporter for 9&10 News and Fox 32, has been named the new media/public relations manager for Traverse City Tourism.
Jenny’s duties will be to tell “the Traverse City story” to the traveling public and highlight tourism’s role in the social, cultural and economic life of the community. She will take over the post currently held by Mike Norton, another former journalist, who is retiring after 13 years at Traverse City Tourism.
A native of White Lake, just outside Detroit, Jenny received a BA in Communications from the University of Michigan, where she worked as a research assistant on a study of media influences on childhood nutrition and diet. After her 2012 graduation she moved to Traverse City to take a job as a marketing and editorial coordinator for MyNorth Media, providing content for the company’s website, blog and weekly newsletters.
In 2013 she joined 9&10 news and Fox 32 as a freelance reporter and eventually landed a spot on the 4.5-hour “Michigan This Morning” show.
Before she changes careers, she’ll be changing her name – on April 23 she’s getting married, and will assume her new duties on May 8, as Jennifer Jenness.
“I believe that relationships are not only an element to a well-lived life, they’re why our lives exist,” she said. “Long story short, I believe we all have a duty to give more than we take.”
Organized in 1981 as the Traverse City Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, Traverse City Tourism is a nonprofit corporation that serves as the area’s official destination marketing organization. Its mission is to stimulate economic growth through the attraction of convention business and leisure tourism development.
“We are thrilled to add Jenny’s enthusiasm and expertise to the Traverse City Tourism team,” said President/CEO Trevor Tkach. “Her familiarity and passion for the Traverse City area will make her an immediate asset to our office.”
