Blue Dog Business Services is launching Fetch, a mobile card reader that allows your business to accept EMV chip credit card payments on the go. With the rise of e-commerce and lean, nimble small businesses, never before has mobile payment been more important for doing business.

Customers expect to be able to pay for goods and services with their debit or credit card, for example at events like trade shows and farmer’s markets. Accepting only cash results in losing potential sales and profits by being behind the curve, according to Blue Dog CEO Ron Eliot Dichter.

There are many mobile card readers available, but few have kept pace with industry changing technology, specifically the EMV chip card that officially went into effect in October 2015. EMV stands for Europay, MasterCard and Visa; and it adds a new layer of security to processing transactions to help prevent fraud.

Unlike traditional magnetic strips, EMV cards contain a computer chip that generates a unique transaction code for each purchase, and therefore cannot be easily replicated. As the industry transition continues, many cards now have both magnetic strips and EMV chips. The new card security measures give peace of mind for customers who choose to use debit and credit cards to make purchases.

“Traditionally, the problem with mobile card readers has been that half the time they just don’t work all that well. Dichter goes on to explain that this new mobile reader technology allows you to manage inventory, customer receipts and tipping options with real-time reporting. Two Blue Dog Fetch card readers will be available. One tethers to the phone’s audio jack to accept EMV payments. A second reader connects via Blue Tooth and will accept EMV, traditional magnetic swipes or NFC payments like Apple Pay.
